We have lots of great courses coming up in 2018, so why not treat somebody to a GBY gift voucher?! All of our courses will be priced at either £25 (half day) or £50 (full day). Vouchers can be used as full or part payment against any of our courses. After buying we will email you to ask the name of the recipient and then send a personalised voucher that you can either forward in an email or print to present as a gift.

Wild Willow Sculpture – Sunday 4th March 2018

Weave your own creature or contemporary shape in this creative and fun workshop using locally grown willow.

Join GBY co-founder and artist Renny Antonelli to learn about willow and its properties, and use it to create a sculpture of your choice, making the most of the great diversity of colours, and the natural curves and shapes of the material. Renny will guide you through building your 3D frame, and then help you to build shape and detail around it using a combination of traditional basketry techniques and artistic interpretation. This course is suitable for beginners and those with weaving experience.

Homemade soup will be served for lunch.

Introduction to Green Woodwork – Saturday 7th April 2018:

A hands on day learning to work with wood in its natural state, using traditional tools and techniques.

Spend the day with woodsman Matt Robinson, as he takes you through the tools and techniques required to turn freshly cut timber into a range of beautiful and practical items. You will be able to practice and hone your skills on small items like spoons and spatulas, or more experienced participants might want to start a larger project

Matt works his own woodland, as well as running Woodland Craft Supplies, an online business specialising in woodcraft tools and equipment.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and for those with some woodworking experience who want to practice and expand their skills.

Permaculture For Your Garden – Saturday 28th April 2018:

Learn how permaculture can help make your garden or allotment thrive.

Spend the morning with Permaculture teacher Sam to learn about what permaculture is, the ethics and principles, and how these can be applied to your garden or allotment. This half-day course will suit experienced and beginner gardeners alike and will cover a range of subjects, from mulching and green manures to no dig beds and closed loop systems.

Introduction to Contemporary Floristry – Saturday 19th May 2018

Make stunning, fresh floral creations with seasonal blooms and foliage.

Join Tracy Mathieson from Foxtail Lily, Oundle, to learn the basics of composing gorgeous, contemporary arrangements using a wide variety of locally grown ornamental and wild plants. We will explore how to work with the seasons to display the vivid variety of shape, colour and texture, with each participant making a display to take home. Tracy is an experienced professional florist and horticulturalist with her own cutting garden, who specialises in fresh designs that have a wild feel, bringing the countryside into your home.

Plant Identification for Beginners – Saturday 2nd June 2018:

Do you yearn to get your garden blooming, or get digging on an allotment, but don’t know your prunus from your peonies?

Spend the morning with professional horticulturist and allotment lover Gareth Richards as you explore the GBY gardens, learn the basics of plant ID and pick up a wheelbarrow load of tips to take home with you. Gareth will be explaining the different families of plants and their various needs, helping you plan your growing year with confidence. This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate gardeners who want to expand and deepen their knowledge. Bring a notepad and a camera/smartphone to help keep track of the plants you learn.

Forage and Feast – Saturday 23rd June 2018:

An introduction to the myriad of wild and cultivated edible foods that grow all around us, for foodies and gardeners alike.

Horticulturist and food enthusiast Gareth Richards, and permaculturalist Sam Woods, will be leading a hands on tour and explore of the GBY, tasting and picking as they go, to seek out some of the more unusual edible plants and flowers hiding amongst more conventional veg. The workshop will include details on safe foraging, plant identification and likely foraging spots, and will conclude with a group cooking session and recipe share to transform your collected goodies into an edible feast.
