On April 23rd 2014 Green Party Leader, Natalie Bennett travelled to Peterborough specifically to visit The Green Backyard. Accompanied by Dr Rupert Read, The Green Party’s lead candidate in the east for the Euro-elections, and the Peterborough based candidate Fiona Radic, Ms Bennett spent more than two hours being shown around the gardens by the  volunteers and enjoyed a lunch of home cooked foods and salads grown on site.
Natalie felt strongly that the project should be given more time to meet the challenge of purchasing the site which is currently under threat: “It’s obvious that the Green Backyard should be given the opportunity to acquire its site at a rate which reflects the good work they are doing for the community and time to arrange that.”
