Terms and Conditions for hiring space at The Green Backyard
These terms are in place to ensure the site is used safely and respectfully, and in a way that supports both visitors and the ongoing work of the charity and site partners. By confirming your booking, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
Booking Times
All bookings must include sufficient time for set-up and clear-up within the agreed hire period. Access outside of booked times cannot be guaranteed.
Off-Grid Site
The site is off-grid with no mains electricity, heating, or lighting. If you require power for equipment, this must be discussed in advance with a member of the team. We may be able to provide a portable power pack by prior arrangement for a small charge.
Named Person Responsibility
A Named Person must be provided for each booking. This person will act as the main point of contact.
Risk Assessment & Safety
The Named Person must ensure that an appropriate risk assessment has been completed for the planned activity. We will liaise with the Named Person to ensure that all identified risk mitigation measures are in place before activities begin. These should be proportionate to the nature of the group and activities.
Prohibited Items
No items may be brought onto site that are illegal or pose a danger to people, wildlife, or property. These include fireworks, flammable substances, and weapons.
Fire Safety
There is no designated fire assembly point on site. The Named Person is responsible for identifying a suitable assembly point and ensuring evacuation procedures are clearly communicated to all participants.
Access Codes & Security
The Named Person may be provided with the site gate code. This code must not be shared with others in the group. If there is any concern that the code has been compromised, this must be reported immediately so it can be changed.
Site Access & Locking
If unlocking the gate, the chain and padlock must remain attached to the gate and the code scrambled after use. The site must be left secure at the end of the hire period unless otherwise agreed.
Kitchen Use
Only the designated kitchen area may be used for food preparation. No smoking is permitted in the kitchen area. Children are not permitted in the kitchen area due to hot surfaces. The kitchen must be left clean and tidy after use.
Toilet Facilities
The site has composting toilets, located near the entrance and behind the hub building (accessible toilet).
All users must follow the instructions displayed inside to ensure correct use.
Waste Management
Where possible, all waste must be taken away at the end of the booking. We have limited waste facilities, and leaving waste onsite may attract pests.
Care of the Site
All users must respect the site, its wildlife, and its facilities.
Any damage must be reported immediately to a member of the team.
Supervision of Groups
The Named Person is responsible for the behaviour and supervision of all attendees, including ensuring children are supervised at all times.
Compliance with Instructions
All visitors must follow any instructions given by The Green Backyard team during their time on site.
Use of Space
The Green Backyard is a shared site. Other activities (including the refill shop or workshops) may be taking place at the same time unless exclusive hire has been agreed.

We look forward to having you at The Green Backyard!
